2009 Top 10

2009 saw me moving even further into house territory, thanks to strong, soulful tracks by local producers. After much debate, I decided to put Partehardy’s Ron Hardy compilation in the new release category, since most of the historical edits contained have never seen mass release. Most everything else just fell into place, thanks to my constant process of re-listening and weeding.

This year I focused more effort on attending shows and conducting phone interviews than on writing reviews, but I still managed to cover most of my favorites. Look for even more exclusive content in 2010.

  1. Lots of good ‘uns on there. Bravo! 🙂

  2. wow, bookmarked this one as a to-do list. Lots of solid choices, and I definitely have to pick up the Black Jazz Consortium album soon

  3. Thanks, all!
I’m beginning to think I should have put the Chez Damier “Time Visions” EPs in place of “16 Years of Prescription.” The more I listen to the latter, the more the alternate mixes sound like bizarro world versions. It’s tough to digest December releases in time for the chart.

  4. did you change your mind on the tevo howard ep since your review, or do you mean the extended version of the track itself? i was surprised to see you so down on it at the time. it’s my favourite of his, largely because it’s the most versatile of his releases to DJ with. (the edit of the title track shouldn’t be on there though.)

  5. thanks man, honored you felt the album deserved a spot on there amongst how many things came out this year… glad you felt it, and happies of holidays

  7. Yeah, my main problem with it originally was the short edit of the title track. The other tracks grew on me over time, though I still wish they were even longer.
