This album’s actually a pairing of two previously released EPs by Push Button Objects. It’s a solid smattering, though, with an unusually fine group of electronic hip-hop hybrids. On “Lockligger,” for example, a rap sample flows over chunky (noisy, staticky, hard) beats and a tantalizing melody. “Maercs” is eerie and atmospheric with a snare that taps out rushes like machine gun attacks. Chocolate Industries’ artists all seem to have digested Basscadet-era Autechre and are capable of taking this style to a new level. Although this release is well worth tracking down, beware of gratuitous pornographic liner art within.
