Ron Hardy Mixes

After Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy was arguably the most influential Chicago house DJ. When Knuckles left The Warehouse to open the Power Plant in 1983, Robert Williams lured Ron Hardy with the promise of his own club, the Music Box.

Hardy’s style was imaginative, with radical tape edits, fast tempos, and heavy EQing on his GLI mixer.

The mixes below were taken from old tapes by contributors to deephousepage.com. I did my best to document tracklists for each one with help from forum members and suenomartino.net. Any corrections or additions are welcome.

A couple of years ago, 5 Magazine published a gallery of Music Box photos. I recently interviewed VERB, who worked security at the club.
