Minus/Novamute, 1999
This new DJ mix by Richie Hawtin is unrelenting. The pace is significantly faster than on Hawtin’s Mixmag Live! effort, which means dizzying, rather than hypnotic music. Hard beats are seamlessly mixed into a veritable attack on listeners. It’s good music if you can stand it, but I miss the ghostly voices and subtle synchopation of Richie’s early Plastikman days. This music’s too simplistic, emotionless, and boring.
