Freescha: Slower Than Church Music

ShingleStreet, 2001

Freescha’s first UK release is chock full of sweet melodies played live on analogue synthesizers. Soft, slirpy beats complement music box echoes on gorgeous “Gole.” Occasionally voices emerge as if on reel to reels buried decades ago. On the other hand, “Boogy Foot” is best described as ploddingly melancholic. Somehow it manages to reinvigorate itself towards the end. The springy voices on “Wood Working” remind me of Plaid’s Rest Proof Clockwork. This is a refreshing release. Freescha’s music is extremely melodic, yet there are hidden textures that surface after repeated listens. I definitely recommend it.
