Jair Dynast: V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E.

V.I.A.L.E.N.C.E. cover

Dynast’s a conscious rapper with a couple of sweet tracks, but most of this album is too poppy for my taste. Dynast starts off strong with “Vicious.” It’s apparently a cautionary tale, since all of the characters end up dead. “Tekin’ Ova” has heavy lyrics, but clubby production. The hook isn’t particularly strong: “Spreadin’ knowledge and saving lives, we takin’ over before you realize!” The chorus on Gorilla War similarly beats listeners over the head with a positive message. “Converse” deals with Dynast’s obsession with finding a wife. I have a feeling he comes on pretty strong on the dating scene. While the chorus claims “Let’s skip the physical,” Dynast exclaims, “Perfect ten, no flaws/and to think I didn’t intend to get in them drawers!” At the end a young lady is pregnant! Another lesson.

Dynast, an ex-basketball player from Toronto, undoubtedly means well, and some of his lyrics are well-written. Nonetheless, his flow isn’t varied, and he tends to preach. I can definitely see him improving, but his debut album may be one to skip.

Some of you internet reviewers are so funny to me. A few weeks ago I bought this album off itunes and I bin bumping it ever since. Sounds like you have something personal against Jair Dynast or music with a positive message, "another lesson"? You selectively quote the guy to misrepresent him. Also, his flows vary throughout the album songs like converse, my people, keeps calling, spread love and profiling sound pretty personal and don't seem to "preach" at all. Pick-up this album ya'll it’s just what hip-hop needs, a refreshing banger!! This guy must have been out to lunch when he reviewed it!

I have to agree with first comment. This album is amazing! One of the best Hip-Hop albums to come out this year. Right up there with Lupe Fiasco and The Game's album!

Easily one of the hottest artist out right now! Gorilla war is a fucking banger listening to that track daily. Can't wait to see Jair do it live!
