Yard: Northern Cedar EP

Northern Cedar EP cover

This digital-only EP (coming soon to Bleep) is a teaser for Yard’s upcoming album Deciduous Flood Plains. (Due out in July, the LP is amazing—definitely a best of the year candidate!) “Pacquet” is a noisy, hard track with a ringing drone and speedy acid-tinged repetition. It reminds me slightly of early AFX. “Canopy” is dubby, with a steady bassline, electric popping, and slow chords. The beat is driven, and the whole thing builds just perfectly. The stormy “Dub Breather” has harsh reverb over big kickdrums. It’s the simplest composition here. Finally, on “Long Rolling Hills (Remix of Karri O’s Trafalgar)” analogue synth sounds swim around sunnily. The cut seems slightly out of place, but it ends the EP on a high note, and definitely has a meadow surrounded by forest feel. Well done!
