Noakes Pressure vs. DLF

Projector, 2005

This split 7" from Noakes Pressure and DLF sounds like a combination of recent Gescom and early Prefuse 73. And that’s a good thing! These are two cuts of hip-hop-informed electronica with deep, repetitive bass and some chopped-up vocals to boot. On “Rhyme More,” a thick bassline and simple snares provide a bed for synth loops and stuttering, panning radio voices exclaiming about “true hip-hop.” On DLF’s “5 Bar Funk,” lo-fi Hammond organ and electronics like an orchestra tuning swirl over harsher synths. I don’t know much about these artists, but I know I want to hear more.
