Coldcut: Let Us Play
Ninja Tune, 1997
This Coldcut LP exceeded my expectations. Jazz, post-modern experimentation, and solid, heavy grooves combine for a hell of an experience. The only miss is “Every Home a Prison.” Jello Biafra’s ranting is annoying after a listen or two. In addition to a disc chock full of music, a bonus CD includes computer programs, videos, and image files. It’s nice to know Coldcut’s continuing their tradition of crazy sampling, artful scratching, and vague social commentary.
