Aphex Twin: Come to Daddy

Warp/Sire, 1997

Come To Daddy cover

There’s been some speculation that Aphex Twin’s Come to Daddy EP is a parody on Prodigy. It’s probably impossible to discern Richard D. James’ motives for this unique release, but luckily a couple of beautiful melodies make up for the title track’s silliness. The highlights are definitely “Flim” and “IZ-US,” the latter with a hip-hop beat and sweet tune even Boards of Canada would envy. There are some fun moments in the other tracks as well, but it’s the one or two melodic compositions Richard throws on each release that make them worthwhile buys.
