Autechre: Chiastic Slide
Warp, 1997
Chiastic Slide is Autechre’s only LP that is not available in the US, but it’s definitely worth the import price. Autechre’s Sean and Rob consistently take their music to new levels with each release, and Chiastic Slide is no exception. It’s a leap past Tri Repetae, and definitely a leap in the right direction. Gurgling mechanical and electronic chunks fuse into a complex, jazz-influenced soundscape. I was hooked with my first listen, and each consecutive listening session brings out more details. This album is lush. At times there’s almost too much to focus on. Be overwhelmed.
